Part Time - Network Support Specialist (30 Hours or Less)

The Network Support Specialist is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and support of technological business applications and enables, either directly or through the coordination of resources, the efficient and accurate use of applications by all business areas. The Network Support Specialist ensures proper functioning of information processing systems, oversees necessary upgrades, and helps staff to utilize the information systems available to improve their efficiency and access to relevant information. The position is also responsible for coordinating the purchase and implementation of any new computer hardware and software, ensuring existing hardware and software is operating as intended, and making recommendations to management concerning the investment in future technological innovations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Network Performance and Internal Controls

  • Responsible for initiating, documenting and implementing internal processes and procedures to safeguard and maintain the integrity of information technology systems.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to data security and storage procedures, including verifying successful backup of network data.
  • Establish and maintain a process for tracking and resolving network and connectivity problems, and other IT-related issues, including follow-up to ensure issues are resolved and/or escalated in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures company assets are maintained responsibility, and ensures a complete physical inventory of all computer equipment is completed and documented on an annual basis.
  • Provides for the performance of routine maintenance and standard repairs to networking components or equipment; arranges for the installation and configuration of wireless networking equipment, and tests repaired items to ensure proper functioning.
  • Responsible for coordinating the implementation and testing of system installations and software upgrades.
  • Serves as our (HIPAA) Security Officer. Responsible for the daily operations of the I.T. security program and oversight of the annual and ongoing risk assessment process. Put in place appropriate administrative, physical and technical safeguards — everything from privacy screens for computer monitors to data encryption, firewalls, and virus protection.

Purchasing / Vendor Relations

  • Builds and maintains vendor relationships and participates in analyzing and negotiating IT-related contracts.
  • Review and approval of IT-related invoices.
  • Participates in preparation of the annual budget as it pertains to IT-related expenses.
  • Evaluates and arranges for the purchase of hardware, software and other IT-related supplies.
  • Makes recommendations to management concerning future HIT-related purchases for items such as hardware and software enhancements, investments in new technology, and expansion of network capacity and/or capability.

Employee Access and Training

  • Create or revise instructions, procedures and/or manuals governing employee use of the network and HIT system.
  • Responsible for organizing and coordinating computer training for the employees and conveying relevant IT information to them in a timely manner.
  • Ensures employees are aware of, and have access to, the necessary information systems through assignment of logins/passwords, education, etc., and discontinues such access upon proper notification.
  • Participates on various teams and task forces as appropriate, lending one’s expertise to the development and implementation of various system features and enhancements, and makes recommendations to Management concerning process and system improvements.
  • Provides technical assistance and support and establishes and maintains relationships with team members throughout the organization.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Associates degree in related field or Certification in Health Information Technology, and minimum of 1 year experience with HIT required.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office Suite required.
  • NextGen Certification preferred.
